Sports And Games

Over the years we have earned an enviable reputation in the field of athletics and games, and our girls have distinguished themselves in International, national, inter-university and inter-collegiate levels. Nearly fifteen of our students had the rare honor of representing India in various international events. Our student Chitra K Soman represented India in the Athens Olympics-2004 and she was the only student in the Indian Team. In the SAF Games 2003-04 held at Madras only two students were included in the Indian team and both were our students and both of them won medals for India. Our Chitra K Soman and Greeshma K.M represented India in the Afro Asian Games-2003. The existing record in Javelin Throw in the All India Inter-University Athletic Meet is in the name our Student Prajeesha M.K. We won thrice, the Prestigious Rajeev Gandhi Championship Gold Trophy in College Games conducted by Kerala Sports Council. Assumption won this College Games Championship four times. We also won the Malayala Manorama Trophy awarded to the best college in Sports & games in Mahatma Gandhi University four times consecutively [from 1991-92 to 1994-95] Assumption girls came first several times in the M.G. University Inter-collegiate basketball, volleyball, handball, cross-country race, Kalaripayattu and yoga competitions. Every year we conduct an All-Kerala Intercollegiate Volleyball & basketball competition in memorial of our former Principal Rev. Sr. Treasa Mary and our Golden Jubilee Celebrations respectively. Many of our sports women have been successful in obtaining suitable placements in Railways, Electricity Board, K.S.R.T.C, L.I.C etc. and most of them still represent their respective firms on the games field.

Sports hostel Scheme

We have 30 college sports hostel students in the sports hostel scheme of Kerala Sports Authority attached to this institution. [Athletics-16, Basketball- 7, Volleyball- 7] Apart from these according to our meritorious achievements Kerala Sports Authority has sanctioned a school sports hostel in basketball to this institution in 2004-2005. The Kerala Sports Authority meet the boarding and lodging expenses of these students and provided the services of a qualified coaches and also giving sports kit, pocket money and festival allowance.
