The faculty of Physical Education was started in the College in 1956. The department of Physical Education of this college has a glorious past under the able stewardships of Prof. I Z Anna and Prof. Celine Joseph. Upto 1983 the students of this college participated in the intercollegiate tournaments of the undivided Kerala University and started winning awards and championships from 1961. The teaching staff as on today consists of two lecturers. Smt. Ninamma Thomas is the Head of the department and Smt. Suja Mary George, Lecture with NET qualified.
So far Assumption produced 35 International in athletics, volleyball, basketball and handball. One Olympian Chitra K Soman. Chitra got Arjuna award during the year 2007.
Assumption College received the Kerala sports council award for the Best College in sports and Games in the year 2001. The council has given the award only in that year. Six times college received the Malayala Manorama Trophy (1991-92, 1992-93, 1993-94, 1994-95, 1998-99 & 2009-10)
Kerala sports council has conducted College Games in 7 times(1994-97 (3) and 2003-06) Out of this 7 College Games Assumption won the overall championship for 4 times and recipient of Rajiv Gandhi Gold cup and Cash prize of Rs. 1 Lakh in 1996-97 and Rs. 50,000 each in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006.
The college is organizing two All Kerala Tournaments in Volleyball and Basketball. Volleyball is conducting in memory of our late Principal Rev. Sr. Tereasa Mary and Basketball as a memory of the College Golden Jubilee celebration.
