DEPARTMENT PROFILE
The Department started functioning at the inception of the College in 1950 offering Part II second language (Malayalam and Hindi). The Degree programme in Malayalam was introduced in 1993. The Department offers modules in Communicative Malayalam and Communicative Hindi.

Malayalam Association "Varnapadham" inaugurating by Dr.B Padmanabhapilla on 23rd July 2009.
Departmental PTA meeting held on 20th November 2008
On 18th November the Department conducted an Inter University Quiz competition "Samagrakeralam" 2008. Smt. Sumi Joy Oliappuram, Lecture of Govt. College Thrippunithara was the Quiz Master.
Our Principal Dr. Sr. Suma Rose was released the collected papers on "Basheer’s Writings" on 18th November 2008.
Dept. of Malayalam conducting a Paper Presentation program on behalf of "Basheer’s writings" was inaugurated by our Principal Dr. Sr. Suma Rose on 29th October 2008. Smt. Maria Goreeti Rtd. Prof. Dept. of Malayalam was the Moderator.
The Varnapadham (Malayalam Association) was inaugurated
by Prof. Dr. Sabu Mathew, St.Thomas College , Pala on 12th August 2008 .
2007–08 was a year of academic excellence for the Department of Malayalam. Our Final year students brought laurels to the department by winning the first three ranks for the B.A Malayalam University examination.
Anitta Mathew and Sr.Beena Varghese secured 1st
& 2nd ranks respectively. Veena Suseel & Parvathy S shared the 3rd rank.
Mrs. Suma Cyriac attended the Malayalam refresher course on 26th November to 17th December in U.G.C academic Staff College, Karyavattom.
On November 28th the Department conducted an Inter University Quiz competition “Samagrakeralam” 2007 under the sponsorships of State Bank Of Travencore.
