Department of Commerce

The Department of Commerce, which was established in 2004, offers a three-year Undergraduate programme, with specialization in Computer Application. The first batch is in its final year.

• Commerce department conducted an interactive session on 25^th November 2009 for both II^nd and III^rd year students regarding 'Company Secretary'(CS). The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) councillor, Dr. Kurien Joseph took the session.

• Department of Commerce was organized a National Seminar on “Impact of Global Recession on Indian Economy” on 23^rd & 24^th of September 2009, inaugurated by Dr. Rajan Gurukal, Hon. Vice Chancellor, M G University .Paper presentation and Technical Session are the main events of the Seminar.
  
  

• The Commerce Association for the year 2009-10 was formally inaugurated on 5^th August 2009 by Prof. T R Krishnanakutty (Retd. Principal of Govt. College, Kottayam ). Sir gave an informative talk
  

• The Commerce Association proudly presents the upcoming attraction in the month of June. Dr. Samkutty George , Henry Baker Memorial College Melukavu , who will present a seminar on “Investment Strategy” on 24^th June 2009 from 9.30 am to 1 pm, unveiling the present prospects of the Business world to guide our students in becoming “Global Investors of Tomorrow ”
  

• On 19^th February 2009 Legal Awareness class taken by Adv. Anil Aikkara for I^st D C Students.
  

• The valedictory function of Commerce Association was organized on 4^th February 2009. Ms. Nancy Varghese of 3^rd year is awarded "The Best Outgoing Student" of the Commerce Department. Ms. Swathy is awarded "The Best Social Worker" & Ms. Rejani is awarded "The Best Leader" . Ms. Nancy Varghese also secured the Proficiency Prize on the College Day.
  

• Paper Presentation Competition conducted by the Department of Commerce, the winners are Ms. Ann Elizabeth of 2^nd DC, Ms. Jisha Jaison of 3^rd DC and Ms. Sahana Shajahan of I^st DC.
  

• A Career Orientation class was conducted for the 3^rd year students of Commerce which was taken by Mr. Daniel John, Indian Institute Of Accounting Finance [IIAF], Cochin on 26^th of November 2008.
  

• The BIZZ QUIZ competition was conducted by the Department of Commerce. The First ,Second and Third prizes were bagged by Ms. Nancy Varghese and Ms. Tessa Thomas of III B.Com, Ms. Jesmin Thomas and Ms. Priya Syam of III B.Com and Ms. Rosa Susan Joseph and Ms. Rini Susan Mathew of I B.Com respectively.
  

• Seminar on Accounting Standard by Remya N, C.A. on 17^th November 2008
  

• A team from South Indian Bank had organized programmes on Latest development in Banking on 23^rd October 2008.
  

• Alumnae meeting of Commerce Association was conducted on 11^th Sept. 2008.
  

• The Department of Commerce with the coordination of Department of History celebrated the Assumption Day and Independence Day on 19^th August 2008. Various cultural programmes were organised.
