Department of Chemistry

Established in 1957, the Department now runs UG course in Chemistry and has introduced short-term module - 'Chemistry in day-to-day life'. The department celebrated Golden Jubilee in the year 2007.

• Dr. Jissy Mathew Awarded Ph.D from M.G University on 5^th June 2010

• Experiencing Chemistry- An orientation and demonstration of Experiments was conducted by the department for +2 students of the nearly schools on 28^th January 2010.

• Ms. Rosili Philip participated in the one-day seminar on Making Kerala a Major Hub for Quality Higher Education at Cochin.

• A lecture on Catalysis- Transition Metal Complexes was delivered by Dr. Annu Anna Varghese, Lecturer M.A College Kothamangalam on 25^th January 2010.

• The staff and students of the department visited the Orphanage- Alphonsa Balika Bhavan Changanacherry on 19^th January 2010.

• Ms. Bhagyalakshmi V of IDC Chemistry has won Ist prize and Gold medal for Firing at A.T.C camp at Marian College Kuttikanam during 19^th to 28^th December 2009.

• In collaboration with Govt. Medical College Alappuzha Chemistry Association organized a seminar on Diet and Life Style Diseases for the local women(BPL) and chemistry students by Dr. Anupa Lucas, Asst. Professor in Community Medicine Govt. Medical college alappuzha on 16^th December 2009.

• III Dc students accompanied by Ms. Nirmala Sebastian and Ms. Jissy Mathew went on a tour to Munnar and Kodaikanal on 21^st to 24^th October 2009.

• The final year BSc students as a part of the curriculam attended the Sasthre Darshan Program conducted by RRII, Kottayam on 18^th September 2009.

• The Chemistry Association felicitated Ms.Annu Else Varghese, II^nd Rank holder final year BSc Chemistry, MG University for the year 2008-09.

• Ms. Ardra Gopal(II DC), Ms. Amagha Gopal (IIDC) and Ms. Akhila Reghukumar (IDC) participated in the Thiruvathira at M.G University Youth Festival and have won 1^st prize.

• Ms. Merlin Brijith Benny and Ms. Alphy Varghese of II DC have secured 1st prize in Mother Maurus Memorial Debate Competition. Ms. Merlin Brijith Benny was selected as the best debator

• Interdepartmental Elocution competion was conduted by Chemistry Association

• Chemistry Association conducted competition in Essay writing, Quiz etc.

• Angela Mary Thomas (II DC) and Merin Viju Paul (II DC) participated in workshop 09’- Biological Techniques’ at M.A. College Kothamangalam on 21^st,22^nd and 23^rd November 2009.

• Angela Mary Thomas (II DC) and Alphy Varghese (II DC) have secured IInd prize in All Kerala Intercollegiate Chemistry Quiz competition held at Alphonsa College, Pala on 27^th October 2009

• Angela Mary Thomas (II DC) and Alphy Varghese (II DC) have secured IInd prize in All Kerala Intercollegiate Science Quiz competition held at Devamatha College Kuravilangad on 27^th October 2009.

• Smt. Elizabeth Mathew and Smt. Jissy Mathew participated in the Seminar on Semesterisation of Degree courses at M.G.University.

• Smt. Rose Mary Thomas and Smt. Elizabeth Mathew participated in the 5 day workshop in Restructuring Curriculum of Degree courses at M.G.University.

• Chemistry Association was inaugurated by Dr. Mohan Thomas, S.B. College Changanacherry on 9^th September 2009.

• Smt. Marykutty C.V., Department of Chemistry is awarded Ph.D on 29^th April 2009.

• Annu Else Varghese has secured IInd Rank in B.Sc. Chemistry, M.G. University for the year 2008-09.

• Smt. Rose Mary Thomas is appointed Chairperson for B.Sc. Sub Chemistry Exam April/May 2009.

• Smt. Marykutty C.V. attended the 1st International Conference on Nanostructured Materials and Nanocomposites (ICNM -2009) held at IMSE, Kottayam on 6th to 8th April 2009.
