Academic Programs >> Extension Activities
As per the guidelines set by UGC, Assumption
College has been undertaking a lot of extension activities/ outreach programmes
for the Community.NCC
,NSS,CSM,
Youth Red Cross, Human Rights Cell
and Women’s Cell
are the main arms through which community outreach programmes are
conducted. Apart from this, different departments conduct their own
programmes for the community. A significant step in this direction was taken in
2003-04 by laying foundation stone of the Archbishop
Powathil Assumption Community College. It also houses a
Women’s Studies Center aimed at utilising the resources of the college for
finding solutions to the problems
faced by the women in locality. In addition, through our
Open NSS programmes, much emphasis is laid on
experimental learning. It aims at personality development through service to
community. Our college co-operates with various social service organisation in
the locality like CHASS to organise the outreach programmes. In 1987 we launched
a large scale housing scheme where we aided the building of 675 houses for the
poor and homeless in collaboration with Government and University agencies. Some
of the crèches, nursery schools, community halls and tailoring centers in the
nearby villages are testimonies of our community outreach programs. The various
extension activities have helped in creating social awareness among
students.
